| 3D Medical Animation - Comparment Syndrome of the Lower Leg. Animation starts with normal anatomy - heart, arteries, veins, popliteal & peroneal (tibial) artery, normal arterial blood flow. As a clot develops in the artery, blood flow past the clot will begin to slow. Decreased flow results in a faint distal pulse and lower leg pain. The vessel supplying muscle is occluded, leading to a lack of oxygen and tissue death. Thrombectomies are performed to remove the clot. A Fogarty balloon catheter is threaded through the artery. Compartment syndrome is shown: leg muscles are divided into compartments (deep superficial, lateral, deep posterior and anterior). The compartment wall are composed of fascia. Fasciotomy is performed to relieve pressure. |
